Welcome to the Putney Public Library!

The Putney Public Library was founded in 1793, by a group of residents that created a lending collection in a private home. In 1896, Town Meeting voted the first appropriations for a public library and the collection was moved to Town Hall. In 1967, a 1,200 square foot brick building was completed on Main Street. In May 2004, after a successful $700,000 capital campaign, construction began on a 3,500 square foot new building in a new space on Main Street. This new environmentally friendly building was completed in December 2004 and opened to the community on January 8, 2005.
